New Google Offices in Stockholm

New-Google-Offices-in-...

The hits keep coming from Big G. Google offices around the world seem to be competing with one another as to who is more cool. Their workplaces are the talk of the town and since each one is built with keeping the city, country and culture in mind, it becomes delightful for any design lover to see what they offer.
Previously Google’s offices from Zurich, Milan, Madrid and Munich found their way here and this time, it is the Google office in Stockholm that catches our fancy. A very relaxed and open place to work in, this Stockholm base is designed by architects from Camenzind, is another feather added to the cap. Bright colors and a lively atmosphere ensure that creativity oozes out of every nook and corner. Even beyond that, every room is designed individually, keeping its function in mind. The game room has a funky interior while the conference room has a formal yet welcoming feel to it.
For other rooms, steal a look below.

Stunning Pictures of Dubai (New)

Stunning-Pictures-of-D...

We can’t but help wonder what Dubai will be like in another 20 years. I mean what more CAN be made possible? The tallest building, the largest shopping mall and various other landmarks of the world have made Dubai their home. The construction feats seem to be ‘out of the world’ to say the least.
You may all be familiar with these transitional images of Dubai that were distributed all over internet a couple of years ago.

This was Dubai in 1990

The same street in 2003

The above snap is from 2008. Some would say that the city peaked during this time and things began moving downhill from there considering the crisis it faced in 2009. The dune-turned-glittery city and its economy were taking a hit and there was little that was being done. We as design lovers would like to think otherwise and hope that the city would be back on its feet again pushing the limits of technology and architecture.
Meanwhile this post is about the fresh images that have arrived which captures in meticulous detail the progress of the city. These images are courtesy of Sergey Dolya the ace travel photographer who captures the essence of the cities he tours and brings out those facets which most ignore.

For more you can visit the photographer’s homepage.

Bizarre House Made from Bottles

Bizarre-House-Made-fro...

Okay, we get forwarded many interesting emails on a daily basis about home design. Realistically it would be impossible to consider all of them for inclusion, but if this isn’t worth a feature I don’t know what is. I mean, sure we have featured some rather odd houses in the past and we even have looked at innovative ways to reuse objects but here is something that establishes a connect between two: A house that uses bottles as a building material!
The whereabouts of this house are unknown but we will be happy to add it if you let us know.

A Church Remodelled into a Residence

A-Church-Remodelled-in...

Known for their master renovations of factories, homes and even schools, Zecc has taken remodeling to a new level. After handsome renovations at various locales, the company has remodeled a church into a home.
Keeping the ambience of the church in mind, Zecc has reinstated similar features in the house as well. Crisp white walls and furniture further highlight the sanctity of the premises while the tall ceilings let the house retain its church like looks. No additions have been made on its exterior structure but that has been compensated with chic and modern fittings inside, which make it seem palatial.
A unique idea in itself, this house has been awarded the Dutch Design Award 2008! It has been featured in various publications as well. For more of their work, visit their site

Urban Forest: Sky Scraper With Gardens

Urban-Forest-Sky-Scrap...

If you are tired of looking at rigid building designs, this post is surely going to blow you away!
Designing is an art and one rarely envisions such path breaking ideas. This building, modeled by MAD architects will be located in Chonquing, China. Connected by a core cylindrical structure, each floor has been placed a little off the centre, giving the building a unique feel. Abstract floors with full length glass windows make the building look surreal and the balcony gardens only add to its beauty.
The floors are designed to create an illusion of each floating upon another. The model is such that it brings together nature and the urban metropolis thereby creating a masterpiece that would please all!
Take a look.

These were the two proposals for the building before the design above was finalized.

Christmas Decorations at The White House

Christmas-Decorations-...

It is that time of the year again. No matter where you live in or what you believe in, December tends to bring with it a certain joy of the season. And it seems everyone is joining in. The White House’s official Youtube channel just released a video that gives us some insight on how they are gearing up for Christmas. The message (at least publicly) is to go light on celebrations and offer a helping hand to charity.

Ultra Luxurious Interiors from Altamoda

Ultra-Luxurious-Interi...

Luxury never goes out of fashion and that is precisely why it touches so many spheres of life. Be it clothing, homes or cars, everything transforms magically.
Altamoda redefines rooms with the new luxury feature in each. The collection below has a vibrant range of colors, designs and accessories. Each room is unique in its own way, for it is complete in itself. Since not everybody is a fan of loud colors, the company has also experimented with soft ones. The textures in the room are varied and it is amazing how each one has fit perfectly well with the others.
Taking hints from these wouldn’t be taboo, but could you stop yourself from replicating the entire set? We think not!

Solar Powered Design Center

Solar-Powered-Design-C...

Built in a defunct arms manufacturing facility, this structure was designed by LIN. Christened Cité du Design, this design center is a unique facility that hopes to inspire many of its kind in the future.
On a budget of about Rs.278 Crores (€41.5 million), the design center houses auditoriums, meeting rooms, exhibition space, a media library, and indoor gardens with an observation tower! Solar power combined with the supplemented heating systems; supply the energy that is required to run this facility efficiently.
14,000 equilateral triangles situated on the outside help control the light, temperature and the air flow based on the environmental conditions. Hidden amongst these, are some triangles that are in fact, photovoltaic cells that help generate power for the building.
Cité du Design sure lives up to its name!
