These Stretch Marks Are Good!

These-Stretch-Marks-Ar...

Moran Ein Dor is passionate about surfaces and effects of stretching; as a result he’s crafted this brilliant piece of furniture called Stretch no.3. It’s a chair where the stretching poles functions as columns and compliment the surface, which forms the seat. It’s currently under production, so an affordable version should be out for those of you who have taken fancy to this scrunchy-clip lookalike!

Total Plug Safety

Total-Plug-Safety

This Power Plug has been designed keeping child-safety in mind. It’s got a retractable blue cover that totally covers the metal pins and a button clasp that ensure no accidental pull-outs happen. When it comes to children, you really can’t predict how safe is safe…you can’t padlock everything and buffer every corner/edge. But small steps like a plug re-design or socket covers are mentally reassuring.

A Whole World of Notebook

A-Whole-World-of-Notebook

Watch and clockmaster designer Denis Guidone’s made something fabulous right here. Is it a clock? Nope. Is it a watch? No way! It doesn’t tell the time at all, not even a little bit. This is a set of notebooks. But it’s like no set of notebooks you’ve ever seen before. They’re made in a lovely pentagon shape and inside, oh my goodness inside! The lines don’t just go all different directions, they change colors too! It’s a landscape of wonder, and you get to live in it with your pencils and pens and chalk and charcoal and crayons!
This is the “Rigolo,” a notebook of some excellent insides and outsides. And here’s an interesting moment in the designer’s description of the project:
While projecting the graphic, the optometry ’s studies stating that children at their first steps in writing tend to tilt their handwriting of 30 degrees were taken into account.
If you’re a person who works with the development of children or… you know… happen to be a parent… let me know what you think of these notebooks.

Squares and Circles

Squares-and-Circles

You’re in your bathroom, and you’re looking all around. You see all sorts of blah. Especially if you’ve just moved in and that last people who lived there were from the 1980s. You know what I mean? Let’s get to work, let’s get it done gorgeously with Cube&Dot. It’s a a matching ceramic, washbasin and bathroom cabinets. One giant system of excellent circles and squares and angle lines.
You’ve got the washbasin and some cabinets. You buy those standard (although they’re amazing and totally NOT standard in any way other than the most basic meaning of standard). Then you’ve got the modular ceramic tile system for the walls. There’s the sharp angles of the cubes you might maybe possibly have sort of seen before, (but not this fabulous before of course). Then there’s the dots. They’ll make your wall look like one gigantic news comic page. Fantastic!
The most amazing thing I can comment on since I can get my hands on it instantly is this, Cube&Dot online interactive tool where you can design your own wall with the Cube&Dot ceramic mosaic tile collection.
Cubes or dots!

This Time The Push-ups Are Not Bras

This-Time-The-Push-ups...

For some odd reason it’s called the Push-up, but there’s nothing indicative to that action, I mean you don’t have to push anything UP! Push- Up is a waste bin, and it’s got this flexible form so I assume it’s made from some kinda rubber or silicone. When the trash piles up half-way, you just gather the mouth of the bin together and compress the contents…pesto…now there’s some more room for some more trash! As for the mouth-of-the-bin, it goes back to the original shape once you release it. Flexible wastebasket eh!
The Push Up Waste Basket is an iF Concept Design 2010 winner.

Please Pleasure Number 3!

Please-Pleasure-Number-3

Pleasure to the People is a series of sex accessories (vibrators) from the house of Jimmyjane and their new seductive design is the Form 3. What makes this and the rest of the series stand apart from the regular stuff is their groundbreaking design execution and innovative thought process. Form 3 is quite a departure from the conventional looks of a vibrator; the slim curved profile flexes to meet the body. The highlight of course is the central soft silicone touchpad that extends, focusing the vibration exactly where it counts. While Form 2 looked so much like a rabbit, this one looks similar, albeit with fused ears!
Can pleasure be so sinful that at the one end of the spectrum you have the land of Kamasutra banning sex toys and accessories. And on the other you have celebrated designers getting creatively adventurous, adding creditability to the industry.
Here are some more details on Form 3:

Washable
Bath-friendly
Never require replacement batteries
Medical-grade silicone
Three Year Limited Warranty
Retails at $145

Designers: Ethan Imboden & Yves Béhar For Jimmyjane

A New Gloriette

A-New-Gloriette

The rich French. What they can do is extraordinary. Especially when you’re talking about their great tracts of land and the way they’ve had them designed and laid out. In this post, you’ll need to know the term “gloriette.” A gloriette is a structure or building constructed in a garden setting made to work with and compliment the surrounding area. This term “gloriette” comes from 12th century French and means “little glory.” What we’ve got here, designed by the Campaña brothers for Veuve Clicquot, is what’s called “La Gloriette,” a contemporary version of the gloriette done in the playful nature of our modern day design world.
Veuve Clicquot is both a champagne house in Reims, France and a brand of premium champagne. This “La Gloriette” was made to sit near this house in France. This house being a place that’s a perfect model of 19th century French gardens, a gloriette was a perfect accent to be built. The Campaña brothers have created a piece of art that is “intended to celebrate the art of playful conversation and the enjoyment of good food and drink.” Drink especially, I’m sure.
What a lovely reflection of this sensual brand of drink.
NOTE: below you’ll see the structure at Maison&Objet in Paris at the Veuve Clicquot Bar as well as at the intended location, that being at the Veuve Clicquot house in Reims, France.

Seesaw For Public Toilets

Seesaw-For-Public-Toilets

If it’s an eco conscious faucet with fun elements and a universal appeal that you’re looking for, I’ve got one for you right here. It’s called the Seesaw and it works on the same lines as the playground namesake. The up down action dispenses water from the left and soap from the right side. The eco factor kicks in with the notion that you’ll use only limited water, after dispensing the soap, and not while you pump some from a bottle. And as Chanhee points out, it should do well in public toilets.

One Loose and Tight Chair

One-Loose-and-Tight-Chair

When I was a kid, I had a toy made of plastic and string. It was a pile of body parts all connected by the string. There was a button on the bottom of this toy and at the push of this button, the spring would be sprung, the string would be taut, and all the pieces would be held together tight, revealing Mickey Mouse! I can’t remember a single place where this lovely concept had been used, until now, in a chair!
This is the “Miniature Lazy Chair,” designed by Fresh West and hand assembled by Laikingland. The Miniature Lazy Chair is a 1:6 scale version of the original Lazy Chair which is brought to exhibitions and constantly met with a pleased crowd. One push of the lever on the stand and the chair collapses. A few moments pass, and the chair is pulled back upright in whichever order it happened to fall.
This chair represents several shared interests between Fresh West and Laikingland: movement, craftsmanship, and playfulness. Fun stuff!

Iron Woman

Iron-Woman

This project goes by the name “IronwoMan,” capitalized just like that. It’s made by designer Muzaffer Kocer, who tells us that ironing clothing is a boring and difficult process, especially if you are a man. I tend to think that it’s a boring process for ANY person, but Kocer’s going to relieve that. This IronwoMan capitalizes on what Kocer notes that researchers have found out about men: that they like wheeled vehicles, cars, and rotating objects. Weird! Kocer found this out and created an iron that works like an asphalt roller with a rotating tambour.
Kocer notes that this rotating tambour makes ironing a funny and enjoyable experience. It’s also full of LED lights and can turn any wrinkly pair of pants into a flat pair of pants.

Are You 100% Korean This September?

Are-You-100-Korean-Thi...

Delve into the archives of Yanko Design and you’ll notice that 6 out of 10 designs are by Korean Designers! It’s never been a calculated attempt on our part, but the truth is that their ideas and concepts are so innovative and in-sync with “good design”, that it is hard to ignore. Many of you write in to ask how we find out about these designers; I can’t give out our trade secret, but I can direct you to a place where you can meet them in person and maybe share your passion for design. The Korea Pavilion will be set up at the 100% Design London, this September. They are really eager to show you their ideas and introduce you to their team; maybe even hook-up some business propositions!
For those of who are attending the 100% Design London, earmark their stand L70 (23 – 26 Sept), and those at home, fret not, here’s a peek at what you’re missing…in a two-part series special! Let’s Look at Part I.
Ring For You And Earth by Birthday

Do you recollect the “Only 1°C Change Can Affect Us – Ceramic Cup”? The same design studio is showcasing the Only 1°C change can affect us: Tee shirt and these gorgeous recycle rings! When I visit the Korean Pavilion, I’m heading here first!
Undulating Salad Bowl by Design Now

The Undulating Salad Bowl is quite a quirky design intended for multiple diners. It has a sturdy base, and the Bowl does a complete 360 degree rotation, giving all diners equal access. With its ribbon-shaped base, the Salad Bowl is capable of transforming into various looks. It certainly is a conversational piece for any party!
Glass Tape by 601BISANG

Looking for design with a sense of humor? 601BISANG is the right place to look for it! Their Glass Tape is perfect for mix-and-match & co-ordination and is made with eleven sets and twenty-two different graphics. They will be showcasing many other products like the “Fantasticker”, a translucent, multi-colored pattern sticker in various shapes such as circles, triangles, and squares; you can layer them to create your own set of patterns. The Kraft Post-it: a multi-tasker with its vintage charm of wood-block stamp marks. Leaf Bookmark Note: charming leaves between pages.
The Sharing Teapot by i-CLUE DESIGN

The fascinating i-CLUE DESIGN will be showcasing the Hobi Tree ( a nursing bottle dryer), but I particularly fancy their Sharing Teapot! Based on Korea’s culture of sharing and caring, the teapot allows you to brew two kinds of tea in the same pot! Talk about dishing out a heady caffeinated cocktail!
Transform Tanagram Sofa by DESIGNSKIN

DESIGNSKIN specializes in Children’s toys and their Transform Tanagram Sofa bagged an iF 2010 Product Design Award. If you are taking your little tyke to the exhibition, be sure to let him play with their interactive and imaginative products like the Castle Mat and STAGO SOFA beanbag!
“TA-RAE” Lighting by Design Virus

This is one Korean Virus that you will want to catch, simply because of their astonishing creativity. Who would have thought that spools of threads can transform to such elegant lamps! That’s “TA-RAE” Lighting for you, composed of ten traditional “Seoul colors!”
Tree Bookshelf by designArtist Soh

designArtist Soh’s main objective is to make furniture and art expression as well. Essentially this means they want it to be functional and beautiful to look at. A perfect example for this is the Tree Bookself. I recommend that you also check out the Relation Sheep Stool that will be there at the stand, it will be interesting to see how two people sit face-to-face on a soft sheep-wool-stool and have a conversation!
For this and more fun products, stay tuned for Part II of the Korea Deign Pavilion at 100% London Design festival; right here on Yanko Design!
