Contemporary Rugs by John Deere

Contemporary-Rugs-by-J...

The John Deere rugs offers a snapshot of life in rural Scandinavia. Heavy machinery has long since replaced the labor of farm animals, leaving its trademark tracks in the grass and mud. The John Deere, on the other hand, imitates trampled turf (in green) or mud (in a brownish-grey). Made of New Zealand wool, the 5′ round rugs come from Norwegian designers Permafrost. These simple ideas are inspired by the Scandinavian winter, and are awesome for any contemporary interior. What’s your favorite ?

Gorgeous Piece of Furniture : Modern Credenza by Frag Woodall

Gorgeous-Piece-of-Furn...

The Vissy credenza is an absolutely gorgeous piece of furniture designed by Frag Woodall. The ‘Vissy’ credenza is finished in high gloss two-pac polyurethane, and it has changeable sliding doors (timber or fabric covered), enabling adaptability to changing seasons and environments. Drawing upon the antiquated furniture making technique of marquetry, Vissy’s timber sliding doors is a reinterpretation of this into the contemporary format of a geometric circular pattern. The circles come alive as you move around the room, the light catches them similar to the way dandelions subtly grab your attention as they sway in the breeze. The fruit bowl morphing into the surface is a logical progression of enhancing the shininess, typifying the forms seen in ceramics, and creating an interesting dialogue between the surfaces. Contemporary-Style-Hou...

Based in Santander / Spain, this house  was designed by architects from A-Cero. This 2,204 sq. m. house features all possible rooms needed for contemporary lifestyle. There are garage, laundry, pantry, several bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, office, games room, small library with home cinema, 2 kids bedrooms and master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe. The house is located on a skewed rectangular plot, with a gradient of around 1 in 3 and covering 2,204m2. The project evolves, embracing the surroundings via a set of 3 very simple rectangular volumes, a large longitudinal central core from which two others protrude, angled slightly to the west and setting sun, one at ground level and the second, housing the master bedroom upstairs. The focus of the design was to maximize views of the river Miera to the South.

Instead of purchasing extension cords for your home, you might want to consider the Rambler Socket assuming the concept is turned into reality. The Rambler Socket is basically like having an extension cord which recoils back into your wall. Rambler Socket comes with an extension cord built into the power outlet behind its socket. when you don’t need it, it’s neatly tucked away. When you need it, just simply pinch the sides and wind it out. Looks like the perfect device for appliances such as vacuum cleaners and hair driers since you won’t need to purchase a dedicated extension cords then. – Via – Yankodesign

Amazing 2.3 Gigapixel Photo of the Burj Dubai

Amazing-23-Gigapixel-P...

Burj Dubai will be opened on January 4 to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the accession to power by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. To capture the whole structure a 2.3 gigapixel photo ( see it here ) was needed.

The whole picture was composed of 381 images taken with a Canon 5D Mk II with a 400mm lens by bristolg. He created a video zooming in and out of his image in Photoshop and you can see it below. It’s fascinating to see such an amazing structure in this way.

Singapore’s Gardens By The Bay

Singapores-Gardens-By-...

The studios Grant Associates and Gustafson Porter won an international competition to design a landscape garden space for the Singapore government and came up with this wild and fantastic space.  Covering 101 hectares of land and encompassing a park, the waterscape and a marina, Gardens By The Bay consistent of completely pre-designed and absolutely original vertical gardens and supermassive tree-structures which will integrate the several indoor/outdoor spaces during the day, and be lit up with a totally original lighting scheme and schedule by night.  Officially opening in 2011, I could only imagine what it would be like to have a public park like this in my backyard… it’s literally breathtaking inside and out. – via

Chairnificine: A Sinister Seat Indeed

Chairnificine-A-Sinist...

The charmingly morbid Chairnificine, a concept developed by the Brazilian designer Gustavo Brenck, is as hilarious as it is dark.  Lazer-cut steel was bent and warped to develop this charming concept which looks like a perfectly comfortable chair if you can get past the subtle shape of a murdered person (not sure if you caught that, just want to be extra clear… ha!).  I think it might be fantastic to see an office or cool dining room with a bunch of these chairs, or possibly a garden with several of these chairs placed around the area almost like tombstones.  Add the matching “pool of blood” carpet and you’ve got a fantastic theme for criminals and comedians alike! – via

Timber Home Design by Sturgess Architecture

Timber-Home-Design-by-...

Designed by Calgary-based Sturgess Architecture, this wood country home on Bowen Island faces north on a steep cliff overlooking Howe Sound, surrounded by nature with water at its feet 100m below. This timber home design was made for a couple and their two children, visitors and extended family, divided as a primary residence and guest house which are linked under one roof. An elongated bowtie plan maximizes the aperture of glazing and view to the North, while on approach from the South, only the roof marks its presence in the landscape. Naturally finished slate, cedar shingles and copper coloured roof denote a building that challenges with form yet eases itself into the coastal context. – Photography by Robert Lemermeyer
